Dear Scott,

Note: Please do not reply to this email.

This is Kaden, from the HP Pavilion Notebooks Chat Support Team, this email is a follow-up to our recent Chat interaction. We regret the inconvenience caused due to incomplete chat session. I appologise for the delay in response due to some technical issues at our end.

I would like to provide a resolution to the issue which we were troubleshooting in the chat session.

Please perform the following steps to isolate the issue.

Open the Device manager.

1. Right click on the DVD device and select "uninstall".

2. To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

3. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

4. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.

5. Expand Control, and then expand Class.

6. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

Caution: There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.

7. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.

8. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.

9. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.

10. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.

11. Exit Registry Editor.

12. Now click on "Action" tab on top of the device manager window and select "Scan for hardware changes".

13. Now try to play a disc on the drive.

I hope the information is clear and usefull.
Have a nice time.
